Food Culture and Politics in Socialist Romania Living Lab
Memory, Bad Memory and Good Memory
The Living lab Culture and Politics in Socialist Romania, educates, investigates, and analyzes the relationship between politics and culture regarding food production and consumption in a transnational
framework.
Our mission is to investigate the food culture (collective habits, rituals, beliefs, values, lifestyle, and practices around producing, procuring, and taking food). For a second time, the life lab analyses the politics (sanitary, economic, scientific, and developmental) implemented by the communist regime in its different phases. The third dimension looks at the trans-political geography of food. Here we are already interested in the evolution of food culture within the Romanian exile and later the Romanian diaspora. Fourth, this living lab has a clear mission of educating the youth regarding the lessons learned from the pattern of food consumption in the XXth century.

History of Food Living Lab
Must see in our time-traveling
…MISSION
is an invitation to ”taste” what food once meant for people from different times and places. For ”us”, in the first place.
Must see in our time-traveling
- How food defined and differentiated the lives of people
- What was considered (good) food and what were the ways to obtain, trade, preserve, and to consume it
- How sharing or denying access to the food were designed and perceived as social, political, or cultural acts
- How institutions interfered with the private life of food consumers, and how individuals and communities responded (or not) to the public policies
- How food and crises (wars, natural disasters, epidemics etc.) intertwined
- How food served personal or collective identity narratives
- How emotions accompanied food and feeding
- What past can say about our present time habits
- How to project usable pieces of the past into possible future scenarios

Human Animal Relations Anthrozoology Living Lab
Humans and Animals in Resilient Ecosystems
ARGUMENT
Our planet constitutes an expansive, interconnected living web teeming with wonderful creatures that both inhabit and contribute to this richness. Existing within the Anthropocene era raises questions, issues, and challenges for humanity and our fellow earthlings beyond the human realm who share this planet. We acknowledge our role as agents of change, at times reshaping the world to an extent that results in pollution, a compromised atmosphere, and global warming. While we recognize the distinctive scale of our impact, we are not the sole contributors to change. Every inhabitant leaves its imprint on the world and landscape in this extensive network of life and interconnections.
